Samaria Baptist Church Extreme Makeover Project

Community. Defined as a group of people living in the same place or having a particular common interest is somewhat cold and vague compared to the community that we were witness to this past weekend in Waxahachie. Fellowship, purpose, history, and love could all be used to better define the community that came out in full force to support the Samaria Baptist Church this last weekend. What an honor it was to be a part of such an amazing cause right here in Ellis County, the restoration and revitalization of the Samaria Baptist Church of Waxahachie.

Originally built by slaves 152 years ago and later a part of the Underground Railroad, Samaria Baptist has a rich history and has been home to generations of people. Over time, and due to severe weather conditions, the church has suffered structurally. That's when, along with the churches members and  The Waxahachie Project , Samaria Baptist Church Extreme Makeover Project was formed.   John Houston Custom Homes, various churches and community leaders, businesses and more came together to serve alongside the members of Samaria Baptist and help revitalize and restore this historical church. Employees of John Houston Homes prayed over the project and helped to repaint the church once repairs were made. A new sign monument was also placed at the site. Read more about the project as featured in Waxahachie Daily Light   here.

Church Deacon Robert Pitts said, "This was once one of the biggest churches in Waxahachie. We are trying to get back to that. Once we get everything organized people will start coming back home. I am hoping that everything will work out to where we will become one successful community.” From the looks of what has and is taking place here, we are that much closer to being one successful community.
